The “nice cream” mystery

For those that don’t know, a “nice cream” is basically an ice cream with a vegan twist. A vegan ice cream should only be made-up from plants, and when it comes to ice cream making this always means dairy-free (eg: vegan). We don’t use milk, milk proteins, cream of any kind, including powdered milk and all things derived from milk.

Besides dairy products, I would argue that a real nice cream should be prepared using only natural whole foods ingredients. This means no additives, preservatives, color or flavor enhancers, no powders, and of course no sugar or sugar substitutes of any kind. Let’s keep it real and vegan, shall we?!

Back to this recipe, this is the perfect ice cream to make when you want a sweet and simple non-dairy ice cream. The base is made up from banana, berries and avocado; and let me tell you that it’s simply delish. On top of these, I used a few of the superfoods that I’m constantly adding to my recipes; how about cacao butter, chia seeds and hemp seeds, all in the same nice cream recipe? But the recipe wouldn’t be complete without a pinch of Himalayan salt, some lemon juice, chopped cacao beans and more hemp seeds on top.

This recipe works great as a sweet treat and even as a relaxing breakfast or a simple meal-snack. It’s loaded with plants to fuel your whole body, no matter what!

Blackberries And Healthy Fats Nice Cream

This is my take on the classical nice cream recipe. Besides bananas and berries, I’ve added lots of superfoods (avocado, hemp seeds, chia seeds) in an attempt to bring this simple recipe to a whole new level.


  • 3 big bananas (peeled)
  • 1.5 medium avocado (skin and seed removed)
  • 7-8 tbsp frozen blackberries
  • 2 tbsp cacao butter
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 slice lemon (organic, skin on)
  • pinch of Himalayan salt
  • decorate with cacao beans and hemp seeds


  • Add everything into your blender.
  • Blend on medium to high until everything looks smooth and creamy.
  • Serve fresh or store in the fridge for 2-3 days.


I used an organic lemon and I kept the skin on. If you plan to use a conventionally grown lemon, make sure to remove the skin in order to avoid any pesticide residue often found in the skin of most conventionally grown citrus fruits.
You can successfully replace blackberries with blueberries, just make sure they’re on the sweet side (as were my blackberries). After all, our goal is to make a sweet dessert and using sour berries will certainly not help too much.
