Reasons to love our cacao cherry smoothie

This smoothie is dedicated to all the cacao and cherry lovers out there. To start, we used quite a few frozen cherries. Following, the chocolate flavor was obtained by using 2 different ingredients: raw cacao powder and chocolate favored protein powder.

For the base of this smoothie we’re using a combination of coconut butter and avocado, and this combo will help us obtain that perfect creamy texture. Next, we follow with a few plants and spices that will make this smoothie the delicate morning treat that we’re looking for.

When it comes to the actual plants used, this cacao and cherry smoothie packs in quite a few nutritious plants, as follows: cherries (frozen), avocado, coconut (butter), celery, fennel, and dates.. We’re also using quite a few spices including my favorite asian spice, cinnamon.

With this recipe you get plenty of healthy fats out of the box (coconut, avocado) along with vitamins, minerals and lots of phytonutrients (antioxidants included). You’ll also get raw enzymes from literally all the plants used, along with gut-friendly fiber to keep your belly happy and healthy.

Last, but not least, this smoothie is low in carbs and sugar-free, which makes it perfect for losing weight and for improving your metabolic flexibility. Did I mention that it’s super tasty and refreshing? Well … I guess I did!

Give this Cacao Cherry Smoothie some love and let me know what you think about it. Enjoy your health journey, friend!

Healthy Cacao Cherry Smoothie featuring frozen cherries and cacao blended together with a few fruits and vegetables, creating a rich and flavorful smoothie. This smoothie can be whipped up in just a few minutes, making it a great breakfast option.

Equipment

  • Blender

Ingredients

  • 200 g frozen cherries (pitted)
  • 2 avocados (seeded)
  • 1-2 tbsp coconut butter
  • 1.5 stick celery
  • 1 slice fennel (chopped)
  • 1-2 scoop whey protein powder (chocolate flavor)
  • 1-2 tsp raw cacao powder
  • fresh dill, parsley or mint
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 2-3 dried dates (pitted and chopped)
  • pinch of Himalayan salt
  • 400-500 ml water (or enough to cover the ingredients)
  • decorate with dried dates

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients into blender and cover with water, as needed.
  • Blend until you obtain a creamy and thick consistency.
  • Pour smoothie into a glass and decorate with dried dates.
  • Serve fresh or store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Color: roasted cacao beans
  • Texture: creamy, well mixed, some texture left
  • Taste: refreshing, sweet, light cacao taste

Make sure to add enough water if your blender has troubles chopping all the ingredients. This step is important because some of the ingredients tend to “absorb” water and some blenders may have troubles mixing everything smoothly.
For this smoothie I used whey protein powder and this means our smoothie is not vegan. Should you want to go vegan with this recipe, feel free to use a vegan protein powder or skip using protein powder altogether.
Instead of whey protein powder you can successfully use a vegan protein powder like pea protein or hemp protein.
