This simple and healthy snack is loaded with all sorts of “good for you” nutrients and it’s so easy to put together. You’ll only need some kind of homemade yogurt and your friendly nuts. That’s it! Works perfectly as a quick grab breakfast, healthy snack, or as a quick and easy recovery meal.
If you’re like me and you love yogurt and walnuts, then this combination might be just the thing for you. This recipe is all about combining two very special (and healthy) foods, yogurt and nuts, in a creative way; so this is not a recipe for making yogurt.

When I was a kid I used to eat yogurt all the time. I would eat it with freshly baked bread (paine cu cartofi), with freshly made bagels (covrigi dobrogeni), or with a special kind of pie made with cow’s cheese (placinta dobrogeana). Back then I used to love the sour taste of freshly made yogurt prepared using healthy unpasteurized milk. This was before the time of industrially pasteurized and homogenized milk, a product which I simply avoid.
A snack like no other
This recipe here is another version of my childhood favorite, but this time I’m using walnuts instead of bread, bagels or pie. I’m not saying that we should forget about eating yogurt with pie, bagels or bread, I’m just saying that we should keep those moments for special occasions. For all the other moments, this low-carb treat might be the perfect match.
On one side you have your full-fat homemade yogurt, on the other side you have those healthy and crunchy walnuts. It’s not good, it’s simply great!
Here’s why I like this little treat. It’s:
Easy to prepare
Brings back memories
It’s Nutritious
Low in carbs
Nourishing
Creamy
Crunchy
And SO Tasty
Doesn’t cost much either

More reasons to serve yogurt with nuts
This snack is loaded with quality proteins, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals, gut-friendly fiber, phytonutrients, also prebiotics, probiotics and enzymes. Basically, it delivers all the things that will give your system so much energy that you won’t know what to do with it. I also love it because it’s super easy to put together and doesn’t cost much either.
You can call it a breakfast, snack or a treat; it works great every time. It’s perfect before or after training, between meals, or served on a cozy Sunday afternoon when you simply want to relax. It’s also great when it’s snowing outside and you need to go out and shovel all that snow (for the second day in a row). Yes, that’s exactly what I did last winter, except that I shoveled snow 4 days in a row!

I love nuts and I sometimes serve them with yogurt like this.
What do you think about serving nuts with kefir instead of yogurt?
Hi and thanks for your question!
You can definitely serve nuts with yogurt or kefir, and even with sour cream.
In fact, we often mix a handful of walnuts in half a cup of full-fat sour cream and maybe also add a few berries on top. This makes for a delicious and healthy snack!
Kind regards,
Marcel
Funny how I was just saying to my partner that we should eat nuts with yogurt, because they both help our gut microbiome. And now I found this recipe …. This is how the universe works …. 🙂
So simple and so delicious! I will be making this treat for the whole family on our movie night.
What wonderful flavor combinations! I can’t wait to try this combo of yogurt + walnuts + pecans!
