In this article we’ll discuss a bit about the connection that exists between our mind, sleep and the healing process. We’ll try to understand the two parts of the mind, and touch upon the role of our mind in the healing process.
In the old days, before medical chemistry and technology, a doctor would say “I Dressed Your Wounds, God Healed You.”.
People have always healed through prayer and faith, there is no question about this. So if people have been healed “miraculously” it is because there is a greater power which really exists and which we’re just beginning to understand.
I do not oppose medical treatments, but I also acknowledge the wonders of the mind-body connection. I believe that we need to acknowledge that health is unity: mental, physical and spiritual unity. Healing happens on multiple levels, some say according to the Law of the Universe or the Law of Mind.
We know that our mind is made of two parts, and they are named the Conscious and the Subconscious. Many names are used to explain this as the two different expressions of ourselves:
- Subconscious Mind – Conscious Mind
- Cause – Effect
- Subjective Mind – Objective Mind
- Awaken Mind – Sleeping Mind
- Inner World – Outer World
- Deep Self – Surface Self
- Higher Self – Lower Self
The Conscious Mind (Lower Self) is the thinking mind which works based on objectives. It analyzes, compares, interprets the environment around us, and looks for solutions; but also gets tired and overwhelmed. The Conscious Mind can only process one thought at a time and is mostly concerned with inputs related to the environment, the body and time.
The Subconscious Mind (Higher Self) is always awake, and it always works, even if we are aware of this or not. This is the Higher Intelligence which created our body, regulates our vital functions, keeps our heart beating, maintains our breath, and so on.
The Subconscious Mind is the place where our dreams and our beliefs are rooted, and it’s also the Connection with the Divine.
The Subconscious Mind is also the place where our habits are registered and executed. Everything we experience, everything we think and do is stored in our Subconscious Mind.
It’s worth saying that during sleep, the Conscious Mind literally sleeps and allows a higher power, the Subconscious Mind, to work. That isn’t to say that the Subconscious Mind does not work during our wake time, it’s just that during sleep The Subconscious Mind is fully active and engaged, while the Conscious Mind is asleeps.
When we sleep we aren’t focusing on our environment, our body or time, so our mind is entirely subjective to our internal state, to our Higher Self.
When our body is in a transformation or a healing process, the Subconscious Mind needs to work without the thinking noise of worry. During the healing process, we will certainly need a longer period of time to regulate all processes related to the healing itself.
Healing doesn’t happen only during the awake time, it’s rather amplified during sleep. During a healing process sleep patterns may be altered, so we may end-up needing more sleep during the day and not just at night.
In conclusion, asleep or awake, the Subconscious Mind works all the time, and it takes care of the healing process for us.
Should you want to heal your body or change your life, then both minds need to work together in synergy. You have to be present with your thoughts when awake, but you also have to work on changing those Subconscious programs that are executed 95% of the time by the Subconscious Mind.
If you want to change conditions in your body or transform your life, you have to change the programs which are rooted in your Subconscious Mind. Staying present with your Conscious Mind is only part of this change. The main transformation must happen at the Subconscious level, where habits and unconscious behaviors are executed by the Subconscious Mind.
