This green smoothie is based on a classic smoothie combo: spinach, pineapple and avocado. Be prepared to absorb lots of healthy nutrients from this creamy and thick green smoothie.

I like blending my smoothies in the morning and I consume them right away (and maybe keep a small batch for later). Most of the time I don’t even start with a plan in mind. I like keeping things simple so I tend to improvise based on the ingredients that I have at hand. But there’s a catch: I always keep in the house as many plants and smoothie-friendly ingredients as possible.

Why add spinach to your smoothie

With time I discovered that spinach works great in smoothies because it’ll keep me full for longer. Spinach also comes with a good selection of phytonutrients (carotenoids and flavonoids), which makes it one of the most anti-inflammatory plants out there. Not to mention that spinach is literally loaded with vitamins and minerals, which will simply keep you healthy.

For this smoothie I had lots of frozen spinach in the fridge so the choice was obvious. What I usually do is I let my spinach defrost naturally overnight in the fridge, but fresh or frozen spinach will work equally fine.

You can even lightly boil the spinach before adding it into your smoothie. Just make sure that, in case you decide to lightly boil the spinach, cool it down at room temperature before adding it into your smoothie … otherwise you’ll end-up with a “tea-smoothie”.

When I add spinach to my smoothie I just feel great and optimistic all day long. How about you? Don’t you love spinach?

This green smoothie is based on a classic smoothie recipe: spinach, pineapple and avocado. Be prepared to absorb lots of healthy nutrients from this creamy and tasty green smoothie.

Equipment

  • Blender

Ingredients

  • 3 big slices pineapple (cut into squares)
  • 1 big avocado (skin and seed removed)
  • 200-250 g frozen spinach rolls
  • 1 big red apple (no seeds)
  • 1/2 stick celery
  • 1 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/3 tsp Himalayan salt
  • 250-300 ml water

Instructions

  • Prepare the ingredients as indicated and add them into your blender.
  • Add enough water to cover the ingredients, but not too much or you’ll end up with a watery smoothie.
  • Blend on medium to high speed for a few minutes or until the smoothie has a creamy consistency.
  • Serve fresh or keep in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Notes

  • Color: warm green
  • Texture: creamy and thick
  • Taste: spinach + pineapple

Instead of water, you can go with coconut water, coconut milk, almond milk or cashew milk. Keep this in mind if you want to add a bit of variation to your daily smoothie.
If you think that 1 tbsp turmeric powder may be too much for your taste, you can simply use 1 tsp instead. Besides nutrients and taste, turmeric also contributes to the final color of your smoothie. Simply put, using less turmeric will change the green tint a bit and that’s totally normal.

Wasn’t as bad as one might think considering that I don’t like eating spinach … most of the time that is. The pineapple taste helped a lot so overall nice and subtle smoothie.
    Thanks!
