Use this Cold Busting Smoothie as one of the first weapons in your natural cold-and-flu arsenal! You’ll be surprised of how good it is at helping you not only fight the cold but also clear your sinuses.

Equipment

  • Blender

Ingredients

  • 1 avocado (skin and seed removed)
  • 1 golden apple (seeded)
  • 350 g frozen blueberries
  • 1 banana (peeled and cut)
  • 5 mandarins (peeled and seeds removed)
  • 1 green kapia pepper (sliced)
  • 2 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp raw cacao
  • 1 tbsp whey protein powder (chocolate flavor)
  • 1.5 tbsp extra virgin coconut oil
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp ginger powder
  • 1 slice lemon (cut in 4)
  • 2 dried dates (seedless, chopped small)
  • 250-300 ml water (or enough to cover ingredients)

Instructions

  • Chop all the ingredients and remove any seeds or inedible skins.
  • Put everything into the blender without adding the water.
  • Once all the solid ingredients have been moved into the blender, add the water but make sure not to add too much water.
  • Blend on medium speed until smooth. Use the pulse function a few times in order to obtain a creamier consistency.
  • Pour into glasses, drink and relax. Now let those nutrients help your body heal itself!

Notes

  • Texture: well mixed but not very creamy, still was super ok
  • Taste: a bit sour-ish from the berries, feels like ginger and cinnamon
  • Color: dark red color

Should you manage to use 100% of the ingredients as organic ingredients than go for it because it’ll totally be worth it. If not, don’t worry about it right now, just try using as many organic ingredients as you can.
You can always adapt this recipe for your needs or based on the ingredients you have in your kitchen. For example, you can use coconut milk or almond milk instead of plain water, and you’ll end-up with a creamier texture overall.
If you like your smoothie sweeter try using more dried dates or add a banana. You may even use healthy type of sweetener such as coconut sugar.
In case you’re using an organic lemon you can leave it with the skin on, otherwise remove the lemon skin just to be safe of contaminants.
