Why you’ll love this yummy green smoothie

Calling all smoothie lovers out there, this yummy green smoothie was:

Yummy!

I never liked the idea of making one or two ingredients the central piece of my smoothie. I truly believe that the best smoothies are made using many different ingredients (mostly veggies and a few sweet fruits), and I certainly don’t think that one ingredient alone can add much in terms of health benefits.

How smoothies bring positive health changes

When it comes to smoothies, I believe in using different plants in various combinations, rotating them based on seasonal availability and one’s needs. I believe in the power of experimentation and learning to listen to your body’s nutritional and emotional needs.

It’s a fact that our bodies are far more intelligent than we think. Why? Well .. our bodies simply know what nutrients they need in order to thrive. In this context, our job is to listen carefully and provide all the building blocks and nutrients they ask for. It’s that simple, really!

In Romania we have a saying: “One flower doesn’t make the spring”. What this means is that one try will not get you too far and consistency is always the key to success. I believe this is very true when it comes to smoothies.

One single smoothie will not improve your health dramatically, but making smoothies a daily habit will most likely contribute to positive changes sooner or later.

From person to person, seeing positive changes can take from a few days to a few weeks, or even months, but you’ll eventually get there. Bigger changes will always take a longer time to manifest in the body, but should your smoothies be done properly (using more veggies and fewer fruits) you’ll start seeing those health improvements sooner than you’d expect.

Prevention is key to optimal health

I’ve learned that instead of searching for quick fixes to various health problems, it’s easier to concentrate on prevention. I truly believe that, if done right, smoothies can be are a big part of this prevention strategy.

Drinking one smoothie a day will give your body the nutrients it needs to repair itself and to increase your immunity in the same time. This translates into a healthier life day after day, month after month. A stronger immune system is key to having more energy, a leaner body, better sleep, a positive mindset and basically to having better health every single day.

And it all starts with small changes in your daily habits, things that you can implement right now. Smoothies are easy and fun to put together, plus they work great as a dessert or a snack. What better excuse do you need, right?

I hope that I inspired you to take some organic veggies and fruits, and blend them into a wonderful smoothie. Why not take this recipe for a spin right now?

This Yummy Green Smoothie is the perfect example of how you can combine veggies, fruits, and spices into one nourishing easy-to-blend smoothie.

Equipment

  • Blender

Ingredients

  • 200 g lightly boiled spinach (or frozen spinach)
  • 1 big avocado (skin and seed removed)
  • 1.5 stick celery
  • 2 small golden apples (seeded, chopped big)
  • a bit of fennel (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp pea protein powder (or whey protein powder)
  • 2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 slice lemon (organic)
  • fresh dill (chopped)
  • fresh mint leaves (chopped)
  • pinch of vanilla powder
  • pinch of Himalayan salt
  • 400-500 ml water

Instructions

  • Wash and prep the ingredients as indicated. Add them into your blender.
  • Add the water or any preferred liquid. Besides plain water, my top choices are coconut water or almond milk.
  • Blend on medium to high speed until you observe that creamy texture. Using the pulse function a few times will help you break down the ingredients faster.
  • Serve fresh or store in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Notes

Smoothies are about being creative with food. That being said, note that you can easily skip some of the ingredients listed towards the bottom of the list, as all the “important” ingredients are usually listed at the top.
Instead of water, you can definitely use coconut water, coconut milk, almond milk or cashew milk. Except for coconut water, all the other will add plenty of healthy fats to your smoothie and this will translate to an even creamier texture.
